own. Abounding with wildlife, unfettered by the more rigorous structures of
the Kenyan National Parks and designed to offer a charming blend of under
canvas ambiance and uncompromising luxury, it has long been the preferred
retreat of wilderness and safari lovers alike. One of only four private game
reserves in Kenya, Sweetwaters excels in the provision of privileged
seclusion and private game viewing. Thanks to its private status it also

and both horse or camel riding across its game-teaming plains.
The reserve comprises extensive savannah grasslands and the riverine forests
that border the Uwaso Nyiro River.

North of Nairobi, on the hot and arid fringes of the vast northern region of
Kenya, and within the lands of the colorful Samburu pastorolists, relatives
of the famed Masai, lays Samburu National Reserve. Where better to spend a
few days in Kenya's northern game sanctuaries than in the riverine forest
cool of Samburu Lodge, the area's first game lodges.
Every guests enjoy time honored hospitality and service, and the mouth

several large crocodiles, and more often than not, at least one member of
the magnificent leopard family.

Lake Nakuru Lodge
Kenya
The Lake Nakuru Lodge is situated in a wonderland which lies in the heart of
one of Kenya's most densely animal populated wetland National Parks (Ramsar
site), only a two hour drive from Nairobi, through some of the most exciting
scenery to be seen anywhere in Africa.
The 156 Km Nairobi- Nakuru road gives the visitor an unrivalled view of the
majestic Great Rift Valley, winding through a series of Lakes and forested
uplands all the way to the bustling market town of Nakuru. On the outskirts
of Nakuru lies a truly remarkable National Park, which has achieved
international fame as an animal sanctuary.
Situated in the South East Ecological niche of the Park is the Lake Nakuru
Lodge, an oasis of comfort and excellent service. After a days game

Paddock Cocktail Bar overlooking the Lake and the enticing blue swimming

the guests are interesting and varied.

Keekorok Lodge
Kenya
At the southern end of 1,510 sq km Mara paradise, and right in the path of
the annual migration of wildebeest and zebra, lies Keekorok Lodge. There is
always plenty of activity around the waterhole but during the migration, the
lodge is enveloped by the swarming mass of animals. One need hardly venture
from ground to game view. From the verandah and from Kiboko Bar, there is
plenty to see. One unfortunate zebra met its end right in front of the
dinning room, providing supper for a pride of hungry lions, and 'live'
entertainment for enthralled guests at Keekorok.
Accommodation at Keekorok Lodge is in bungalows, single story blocks, and in
comfortable shaded chalets. The liberal use of cedar wood, pink and gray
sand river stone, and other indigenous building materials offset the green
lawns and colorful bougainvillea. After a day in the fresh air, the
excitement of game spotting, a refreshing dip in the swimming pool, and the
ritual of sundowners by the roaring log fire in the lounge heralds an
evening full of traditional Maasai dancing, cultural or wildlife lectures
and videos with yet another of those remarkable Keekorok dinners.

migration of the wildebeest.
Drawing its inspiration from the traditional Maasai cultural motif of a
cluster of domed, mud-colored huts encircled by a 'Boma” of brushwood, the
Mara Serena offers a rare blend of raw African splendor and sumptuous
sophistication. The essentially ethnic decor also draws on a vibrant
color-palette of sun-burst colors, embellished by a unique selection of
Maasai art to create the look and feel of a traditional bush encampment. The
lodge features individual rooms, each with their own balcony and view of
eternity, a sky-blue swimming pool and a spectacular restaurant, overlooking
a water hole where a fantasia of creatures collect to drink.

cliff above the flamingo-frosted expanse of Lake Manyara’s gleaming alkaline
waters, the Lodge commands panoramic views across the volcano-studded floor
of the Great Rift Valley.

Lodge draws on an inspirational architectural motif that melds swooping
avian curves with the gentle concentric patterns of traditional Maasai
‘Bomas’ (encampments) whilst the vibrantly colored frescoes lining the walls
are designed to depict the colorful intricacy of bird migratory patterns.
The ambiance of the Lodge is a fusion of lakeside tranquility, towering
volcanic splendor and adventure-packed sporting activity

Ngorongoro Serena
Tanzania
Perched on the jagged rim of the crater, wreathed in morning mist,
camouflaged in river-stone and cloaked in indigenous creepers, the
Ngorongoro Serena Safari Lodge is a triumph of ecological and architectural
fusion. Sensitively constructed so as to take nothing from its environment
whilst affording endless vistas over the heat-shimmering reaches of the
crater below, the clustered boulder-built buildings of the Lodge hug the
crater rim, linked by rope-lashed timber walkways that skirt the buttressed
roots of ancient, liana-hung trees.
The interior, radiating out from the primeval log fire glowing at the heart
of the Lodge, blends the concentrated hush of a game-viewing hide with the
ochre, rust and charcoal images of a prehistoric cavern. Lit by flaming
wall-lanterns, clad in gigantic volcanic boulders and decorated by the iron
spears, bright-beaded robes and intricately carven artefacts of the Maasai,
the Lodge is a unique blend of world-class luxury, timeless volcanic
splendour and ethnic style. As for the views, from lilac-streaked sunrise,
to indigo star-studded night, the immeasurably ancient Ngorongoro Crater
delivers a theatre of vistas, most unchanged since the dawn of time.

Serengeti Serena Lodge
Tanzania
Set high on the saddle of tree-clad ridge commanding panoramic views over
the endlessly rolling reaches and volcanic reefs of the Serengeti, the
Serengeti Serena Safari Lodge is the ultimate fusion of traditional African
architecture and world-class style. Drawing its inspiration from the
circular ‘Rondavel’ dwellings and winding paths of a traditional Maasai
village, the Lodge features thickly-thatched, stone-built rooms, spaciously
set amongst groves of indigenous trees that are cooled by sparkling streams
and papyrus-fringed ponds.
The circular bar, its roof supported by massive carven figures of warriors,
maidens and elders, looks out over the sky-blue, ‘vanishing horizon’
swimming pool towards the miles of lion-gold savannah that lie below,
wherein is enacted the thunderous theatre of the million-strong wildebeest
migration. As for views, from lilac-streaked sunrise, to diamond-domed
night, the sensational Serengeti delivers a series of timeless volcanic
vistas that are second to none.

central meeting tent evocatively furnished with a tasteful selection of
chintz-covered chaises tongues, jewel-hued Persian rugs, antique
escritoires, wind-up phonograms, leather-bound traveling cases, brass
shooting sticks, carved rocking chairs, and stud-backed smoking chairs.
The tent also incorporates a stained-glass and mahogany Edwardian bar and a
stone flagged, khaki-and-canvas ‘Sun downer’ terrace looking out over gently
sloping acacia groves towards the lilac-grey hills and lion-gold plains of
the Serengeti’s Western Corridor, scene of the thunderous theatre of the
million-strong wildebeest migration. As for camp views, from lilac-streaked
sunrise to diamond-domed night, the sensational Serengeti delivers a series
of timeless volcanic vistas that are second to none.
